1 dead and 1 seriously injured after truck ran stop sign causing crash in Wayne Co.

One person was killed and another was seriously injured after a crash in Wayne County Saturday afternoon, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of South U.S. Highway 27 and State Route 122.

When deputies arrived, they found a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2006 Dodge Ram in a field near the intersection, according to the sheriff’s department.

The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet were still in the vehicle when officers arrived, they were identified as Troy Byrd and Nannie Byrd. Deputies say both suffered serious injuries, Troy was taken from the scene to a local hospital and Nannie was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The two juveniles in the Dodge suffered minor injuries that were treated at a local hospital, deputies say.

According to the sheriff’s office investigation, the Dodge failed to stop at a stop sign. The Chevrolet struck the Dodge, causing significant damage to both vehicles, and deputies believe the Dodge rolled at least once.

The crash is still under investigation, the sheriff’s office says.
