Man seriously injured after hitting pole and flipping pickup truck in two-vehicle crash

CINCINNATI – Two people were hospitalized Tuesday morning, one with serious injuries, after a crash in Avondale, the Cincinnati Police Department (CPD) said.

CPD said an 18-year-old man was driving a 2007 Acura on Harvey Avenue near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive around 5 a.m. when he crashed into a 2011 Toyota Camry, which was being driven by a 21-year-old woman. After crashing into the Toyota, the 18-year-old lost control of his vehicle, left the road and struck a pole before his vehicle overturned.

Authorities said the man was partially ejected through the sunroof and crews had to roll over the car to free him. He had serious injuries and was transported to UC Medical Center, CPD said.

A 20-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Toyota, also suffered minor injuries after the accident. She was also transported to UC Medical Center for treatment.

CPD said those involved in the crash were not wearing seat belts.

Police are investigating speeding and impairment as factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the CPD Traffic Unit at 513-352-2514.
