Former Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano ‘ready for new job’ with Lionel Messi link

Former Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano will be named the new coach of MLS side Inter Miami, where he will join his former Argentina and Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi.

Former Liverpool Midfielder Javier Mascherano will reportedly be named the new head coach of MLS side Inter Miami.

The Reds icon, 40, made 139 appearances for Liverpool between 2006 and 2010 before leaving for Catalan giants Barcelona. He formed a formidable trio in the midfield with Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrardbut they eventually parted ways when Alonso left for Real Madrid in 2009.

Mascherano raised two champions league titles and five La Liga titles during his time in Spain before finally retiring in Argentina after a brief spell in China.

He has since moved into coaching and, after an impressive spell in charge of the Argentina Under-20 team, is said to be on the verge of landing his first role in club football at Inter Miami.

David Beckham’s Florida team has been searching for a new coach following the departure of Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, who resigned after leading them to an MLS-record 74 points in the regular season. However, the club failed to win the playoffs and was eliminated by Atalanta United in the first round.

According to Argentine journalist César Luis Merlo, Mascherano has agreed to sign a long-term contract in Miami that will see him reunite with his former Barcelona and Argentina teammate and close friend, Lionel Messi. He will also join former Reds striker Luis Suarez, who moved to the club earlier this year.

Beckham and company. We hope that the close relationship that Mascherano already shares with some members of the team will be key to getting over the line in their attempt to lift the MLS Cup next season.

Inter Miami will also appear on the world stage next year in the expanded version of the Club World Cup that will include first division Manchester City and Chelsea sides.
