Luna Mocks Prosecutors’ ‘Criminal Prosecution’ Against Trump to ‘Restore Trust’ in Justice Department

Since Trump swept the Nov. 5 election with the Electoral College and the popular vote, special counsel Jack Smith has been quietly preparing to dismiss their cases against the now elected president.

THE BIGGEST COMEBACK? This is how Trump positions himself in White House history

Smith brought charges in two cases against Trump, which included allegations of subversion in the 2020 election and mishandling classified documents. Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) has required that Smith retain his records for future investigations.

“I’m very happy that Jim Jordan and the House judiciary are telling you to preserve the evidence because even after President Trump is (inaugurated), we need to make sure this never happens again to any other candidate.” to the presidency,” Luna said in Sunday Morning Futures. “Therefore, we have to move forward to see who exactly ordered that, and if that means we have to start criminal proceedings, I think that is necessary.”

Host María Bartiromo spoke with Luna and asked if criminal prosecution is “the way to regain trust in our institutions,” such as the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In response, Luna reaffirmed her position.

“There are the American people who would be held to the same standard. Just because these people are political appointees, if they operate outside the scope of the Constitution, if they are violating people’s rights, they should be held accountable,” Luna said. “Therefore, I am not in favor of a two-tier justice system in this country. “I think restoring our country and restoring trust in our justice system will mean that people will get in trouble, and that is exactly why I think a criminal prosecution would be necessary.”

Smith had sought to expedite his cases against Trump and go to trial before this month’s election. These cases, although they occurred at the end of Trump’s first term in 2020, did not come to light until after Trump announced his re-election campaign.

Additionally, Trump has not yet been sentenced for his civil fraud conviction in New York. Earlier this summer, the future president was found guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records.
