Prince William makes unusual comments about his estranged brother Harry

Prince William and Prince Harry may still be taking space from each other, but looking back his late mother, Princess DianaIn his documentary, William gave a nod to his younger brother.

In the upcoming two-part documentary series Prince William: We can end homelessnessThe Prince of Wales recalls a transformative childhood moment he and Harry shared. A preview clip released on Saturday shows the royal talking about how she got involved in charity work and how she found solutions to the homelessness crisis. He said his mother introduced him and Harry to Passage, a UK homeless charity, when they were just children.

“My mother took me to the Passage; She took Harry and me there. I must have been 11 at the time, maybe 10,” William says. “I’d never been to anything like this before and I was a little anxious about what to expect.”

And he adds: “My mother did the usual thing, making everyone feel relaxed, laughing and joking with everyone. I remember at that moment thinking, ‘Well, if everyone doesn’t have a home, everyone will be very sad.’ But it was incredible how happy the atmosphere was.”

William says the visit gave him some perspective and made him aware of his privilege.

“I remember having good conversations, playing chess, chatting, and that’s when I realized that there were other people who didn’t have the same life as you,” he says. “You know, when you’re very little, you just think that life is what you see in front of you and you really have no idea to look elsewhere. It’s when you meet people, like I did then, that put a different perspective in your head and say, ‘Well, I was living on the streets last night,’ and you say, ‘Wow.’ “I remember that happening.”

Although brief, his recounting of the moment with Princess Di and Harry marks the first time William has spoken publicly about his brother since their estrangement. The brothers had a falling out after Harry made the decision to step down as a senior member of the royal family and move out of England with his wife Meghan Markle. The rift only worsened when Harry and Meghan were released his Netflix documentary—in which they got candid about life in the British royal family—and when Harry published his 2023 memoirs, Replacementin which he wrote about how he was always treated second to William.

Still, Harry has expressed hope that he and his older brother will improve their ties in the near future and that their families will become closer.

William’s docuseries will premiere on November 1 on Disney+ and will be televised on October 30 and 31 on ITV in the United Kingdom.
