The Wichita Falls City Council will call a special meeting Monday to hire an interim city manager.
The council will name the interim manager following a closed-door meeting at 8:30 a.m. at MPEC, 1000 Fifth St.

The move follows the resignation of former City Manager Darron Leiker in August after Mayor Tim Short and City Council members Bobby Whiteley, Larry Nelson and Mike Battaglino requested his resignation rather than being fired.
Short has said whoever is appointed interim manager will not be a candidate for the permanent job. He said in August that the search for a permanent manager “will be thorough and take as long as necessary.”

On Tuesday the council will also sign a “professional services agreement” with the interim manager, but the agenda does not specify how much that person will be paid.
Deputy City Manager Paul Menzies was named interim city manager to fill the gap between Leiker’s departure and the appointment of an interim manager.
Leiker has not left the city payroll despite his resignation. He remained as an “administrative liaison” as part of a separation agreement that includes $611,277 in cash severance pay. The city budget for 2025 reflects administrative liaison salary and benefits as $291,420.40.
